Daniel Pentecost

Daniel Pentecost began playing the violin at 12 years old.  He began by studying the Suzuki violin method with Beverly Drukker.  Moving quickly through the method, he began playing with youth orchestras in the area including The Sumner County Youth Symphony, and The Youth Strings Orchestra at the Blair School of music.

Shortly after starting the violin, Daniel began studying the bagpipes.  Playing throughout high school and college, he competed in solo competitions throughout the southeast, eventually making it to an Amateur Grade II classification.  He also had the honor of competing with such bagpipe bands as Nashville Pipes and Drums, The Tennessee Scots Pipe Band, and The Atlanta Pipe Band

When he was 14, he started studying different fiddling styles with Crystal Plohman at the Blair School of Music and played in the group Fiddle Frenzy, which she directed.  It was also at this time that he first saw Barrage, a fiddling group based out of Calgary, Alberta.  It was Barrage that inspired Daniel to pursue music as a career.

In high school, Daniel studied classical violin with Erin Hall, Assistant Concertmaster of the Nashville Symphony.  Miss Hall prepared him for auditions with the Nashville Youth Repertory Orchestra, which he played with for the 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 seasons, as well as the Curb Youth Symphony, which he played with for the 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 seasons. He also continued his studies of fiddling styles with Craig Duncan, member of the North American Fiddler’s Hall of Fame and author of numerous fiddling books.

Daniel attended Belmont University in Nashville, TN, where he majored in Commercial Violin with emphases in Performance, and Composition and Arranging. There he had the honor of studying violin with Elisabeth Small, Tammy Rogers-King, and Tracy Silverman; composition with Dr. Bryan Clark; and arranging with Dr. Jeff Kirk. While at Belmont he performed with The Belmont University Symphony Orchestra, Southbound, and Phoenix.  He performed in 3 broadcasts of Christmas at Belmont, played fiddle with Jenna Basso in both the Country and The Best of the Best Showcases, and was part of the house band for the 2010 Commercial Music Showcase.

After graduating with honors from Belmont, he auditioned for, and was hired by Barrage. He toured with Barrage from August 2010 till May 2012.  While with Barrage he played in 8 different countries on 3 continents.  These tours included 2 tours to China, 3 to the Netherlands, and 2 to Italy.  He performed with them for festivals; awards shows; and Beijing TV’s Global Gala broadcast for the 2012 Chinese New Years Celebrations at the Water Cube, home of the 2008 Olympic aquatic events.

Now a permanent Nashville resident, Daniel is continuing to pursue a career in music.  He performs regularly with The Field Larks, Autumn Rose, Gary Ray, The Tartan Terrors, Jared Mitchell, Jamie Tate, Megan Moreaux, Ruth Collins, Samantha Landrum, Rachele Lynae and The Lockets and is enjoying teaching in the Middle Tennessee area.
